2023 Feis Honoree – Tim Myles

TIMOTHY MYLES
Tim Myles joined the AOH in the early 80’s at Div. 13, Bayside. He learned about feissanna from the Div. President Bob Lynch. Later he moved to Long Island and was a founding officer of Div. 17, Long beach. several years later he transferred to Div. 14,Lynbrook.  Soon after that the legendary Jack Irwin asked Tim to run the AOH Feis. With no knowledge of the Irish dance community, he accepted the challenge. He reached out to many in and out of the AOH  to learn how to do the job. He is most grateful to the late Joan Cass and John Bergin for their help and wishes they were here today for this great honor. also helping along the way was Billy Furlong, the Hirten family and too many to list here. Tim also attended many annual meetings of the North American Feis Committee and learned more and made great friends. Running the feis could not be done alone and their were many Hibernians who stepped up, notably “Timmy’s Angels”, Caroline, Marion and the late Christine. Under Tim, the numbers of competitors rose from 240 to over 800, much thanks to Riverdance, but he was able to oversee the growth with no problems. After 10 years he left that position but now for 30 years he is still involved with set-up, break down and  hospitality.
Outside the feis Tim has been very involved with the Hibernians. He rose through the ranks to serve several terms as division President then doing the same on the County Board rising to President in 2015. Tim is also well known for his involvement with the Freedom For All Ireland committee. He has marched 12 times in the Bloody Sunday commemoration march in Derry. He has sat in on the Saville Inquiry and the Ballymurpy families court case. He has also been a fierce advocate for the cause of Malachy McAllister. Tim attened his court hearing in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. Tim has also received many honors along the way. In 2004 he was an Aide to the Grand Marshal, NYC St. Patrick’s parade. In 2016 he received the very prestigious AOH National Life Member award. He is also an honorary life member of Derry Div. 1, Board of Erin. Tim is very proud of his latest project is the AOH Snowbird Social at Tim Finnigans, Delray Beach. Approximately 75 Hibernians  gather while they are in Florida. He has also attended every AOH state and national convention since 1999.
Tim is also very involved in the larger Irish community, He has been a contributor on many Irish radio programs. He also is on the RVC St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and serves on the board of Molloy University Irish Studies Institute.
Tim is the youngest of 5, with two sets of twins of which he is one. He is very proud of his daughter Kathleen and young granddaughter Claire Noelle. In the greater community Tim is an usher at St. Christopher’,s Baldwin and served as Treasure of the Island Park PAL for 10 years. He is also retired 11 years ago from the LIRR and the NY Times highlighted him just before his retirement.
