About Hempstead Harbor Beach Park

West Shore Road, Port Washington
(516) 571-7930

Spread across 60 acres of beach front property, Hempstead Harbor Beach Park offers a diverse selection of recreational opportunities. Game courts accommodate basketball, handball/paddleball, and shuffleboard. Soccer is also played at Hempstead Harbor. Softball may be played on the ballfield, while volleyball and badmitton are options for play closer to the water. A small playground is available for young children. A concession is available in season on the weekends, or you might try heading to the space between the sunny beachfront and the shady, woody hillside which spans over a picnic area already equipped with tables, benches, grills and a splendid, built-in view of the park. Although much of the space is on a first-come, first-served basis, a reserved area is available for a fee. The Park has several unique, special- interest areas which include a games area, an aerodrome for radio-controlled model airplane enthusiast (for permits call 571-7460), and a fishing pier for drop line fishing. The highlight of the Park is the beach itself. Located along Hempstead Harbor, the beach boasts one-half mile of beach front ideal for lounging and swimming purposes. Enjoy a stroll along the elevated and fully paved promenade, which runs the entire length of the 2400 foot beach and connects with a fishing pier at the northern end. The illuminated promenade is spotted with sitting areas overlooking the harbor.
